For Retirement Homes

Hearing loss affects more than 50% of seniors aged 75 years and older. While many seniors in retirement residences may have age-related hearing loss, they often overlook it or find the process of seeking hearing care challenging. It is understandable that hearing loss may not always be the top health concern for seniors, especially when some face limited mobility that makes it difficult to access traditional hearing care services outside their residence.

Sadly, neglecting age-related hearing loss can result in decreased participation in social activities, leading to feelings of isolation and ultimately impacting the quality of life for individuals with hearing impairment. As audiologists, it is our duty to provide tailored services to our senior population. In order to improve access to hearing care, ODYO offers comprehensive mobile audiology services specifically designed for retirement homes.

Our team of audiologists provides educational presentations and activities on hearing care awareness for older adults. Through these engaging sessions, residents will have the opportunity to explore topics such as the anatomy of the ear, age-related hearing loss, and available solutions. Specific areas covered during these awareness activities include understanding how the ear functions, recognizing signs and symptoms of age-related hearing loss, effective communication strategies, the benefits of hearing aids, and the use of assistive listening devices.

In order to make hearing care more accessible, we provide complimentary hearing screening tests for seniors right at your retirement community. During this brief 15-minute test, our audiologist can determine if age-related hearing loss or earwax buildup is affecting your ability to hear. Following the test, the audiologist will advise if a more comprehensive hearing evaluation is necessary.

This service is particularly beneficial for residents who:

  1. Have never had a hearing test before
  2. Are interested in learning about eligibility for a government-funded hearing aid
  3. Suspect they may have a hearing impairment
  4. Suspect they have excess earwax in their ears

If further audiology follow-up is needed, our team will conduct a comprehensive hearing test in the comfort of your own home. Using a mobile soundproof booth, our audiologists will assess your hearing and develop a personalized intervention plan tailored to your communication and hearing care needs.

Our audiologist will also evaluate your eligibility for governmental payer programs such as RAMQ, CNESST, and Veterans Affairs. If required, they will refer you to a hearing aid professional (audioprosthesist) or an Ear Nose Throat doctor (ENT) to ensure comprehensive hearing care support.
